Ph.D. Completion Project

Graduate School named Project Partner in Ph.D. Completion Project.

Loyola University Chicago's Graduate School will join in the second phase of the Ph.D. Completion Project:  a major national initiative to improve completion rates and reduce time-to-degree in doctoral programs.  The Project was begun in 2004 by the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) - the United States' only national organization for graduate education - and is supported with funding from the Ford Foundation and the Pfizer Corporation.

As a Project Partner, the Graduate School will share data about its Ph.D. completion rates, attrition rates, and time-to-degree with a community of 22 Research Partners - including Brown, Duke, Howard, Purdue, Marquette, and Yale - and 15 other Project partners - including University of California at Berkeley, Northwestern, Princeton, Rutgers, and Washington University at St. Louis.  This community of institutions also shares information about proven and promising practices for improving doctoral education, including strategies for increasing the completion rates of women and minorities underrepresented in graduate education.

The Council of Graduate Schools' mission is "to improve and advance graduate education, which it accomplishes through advocacy in the federal policy arena, research, and the development and dissemination of best practices."  For more about the Ph.D. Completion Project, see www.phdcompletion.org.  For more about CGS, see www.cgsnet.org.
