The Graduate School is delighted to welcome you to Loyola University Chicago. While you probably know that your program offers you many services and resources as you begin your studies, you should also be aware of additional support available to you from other Loyola offices and the Graduate School.
The Graduate School New Student Orientation is a day-long program where you will learn more about campus resources and have the opportunity to meet your peers in the incoming class. At orientation, you will meet the Graduate School staff and hear from some key departmental offices that can support your scholarly activity and research.

Each Graduate School student has a faculty advisor and a Graduate Program Director (GPD) in his or her selected program or department (in some cases, these may be the same person). The GPD is your programs central source of basic information about Graduate School procedures, forms, policies and services.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM ORIENTATIONS - GRADUATE
In addition to the Graduate School orientation, your graduate program will host an orientation specifically geared to your academic program. You will meet faculty, personnel and other graduate students in your program.
By now, you should already be familiar with LOCUS, Loyola's online connection to university services. LOCUS allows students to enroll in courses, view and process financial information, change addresses and phone numbers, request official transcripts and more. You will need a user name and password to access LOCUS, which you should have received with your admission packet. After you are enrolled in courses, you will be added to the Graduate School’s listserv, where we send out information and announcements throughout the year.
AWARD LETTERS: OFFICE OF STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE – GRADUATE & PROFESSIONAL
Students who are admitted to Loyola and have filed a valid FAFSA listing Loyola's school code, will receive Financial Aid Award letters, which are mailed to graduate students beginning in late Spring. Awards can include eligibility for Federal Stafford Loans; academic department scholarships and assistantships when graduate departments have notified OSFA; and other assistance for which OSFA has received notification. Award notifications to continuing graduate students are sent by e-mail to the student's University e-mail address. Awards are also posted for student review in LOCUS.
Revised Award letters are emailed by OSFA to graduate students, as needed, throughout the academic year. Revised Award letters are notifications of a change in your aid resulting from, for example, a change in your enrollment, a request from you to reduce or reject aid, or notification of addition assistance.
Be sure to review your award letters promptly and reduce/reject loans in LOCUS if you want to change the amount you need to borrow.
For general financial assistance information, contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance at: 773.508.7704 or e-mail: lufinaid@luc.edu or link to the Graduate & Professional financial aid process at http://www.luc.edu/finaid/grad_checklist.shtml.
Billing, Payment Plans and Refunds
The Office of the Bursar is responsible for the billing of tuition and fees, collecting payments, processing refunds, and adjusting students' accounts. The Office can also assist students with payment plan options, account and fee questions, student health insurance, and withdrawal policies and procedures.
Student Health Insurance
Loyola University Chicago's Board of Trustees requires that all undergraduate students enrolled for 12 or more credit hours and all graduate and professional students enrolled for 8 or more credit hours (or registered for thesis or dissertation supervision) at the start of the fall or spring semester have individual health care insurance.
All students meeting the eligibility requirements will be enrolled in and charged for Student Health Insurance by the University to their student account. If you already have your own insurance or are covered under a parent's plan, you may waive out of Loyola's Student Health Insurance by providing proof of other coverage and a credit for the insurance charge will post to your student account.
