The Attorney General is the state's chief legal officer as established by the Illinois Constitution. Charged with this responsibility, the Attorney General directs a broad range of services dedicated to protecting and assisting the state and its many citizens. The Office of the Attorney General leads the statewide fight against crime and violence. Staff assists local state's attorneys in the prosecution of major crimes, provides legal representation to all elected state officials and the departments and agencies of state government, and acts to guard the interests of the people of Illinois.
