As part of Mental Health Law week at Loyola, the HLS has scheduled two great speaker events. Joe Monahan, of Monahan & Cohen, joins us Monday, November 16th from 12:00 - 1:00pm in room 1001 to give an overview of the field of Mental Health Law, including the ubiquity of mental health issues and topics related to a career in this area. Connie Ritzman, a registered nurse and mental health professor at Loyola's Nursing school, joins us Tuesday, November 17th from 4:00 - 5:00pm in room 1103 to provide a perspective on what goes through the minds of the mentally ill. She'll present a recording of voices/hallucinations as an example of what mentally ill individuals hear in their heads. She will also give an overview of various disorders and explain how an attorney might best approach a client with each disorder. Additionally, nurses are frequently used as witnesses in medical malpractice cases. She will provide an overview of the role that nurses can play in assisting with such litigation. RSVP to health-law@luc.edu to reserve your spot at these fabulous presentations!
