*There is no classification of exempt, part-time employees. All employees with an FTE less than 1.00 are classified as non-exempt.
Newly-hired employees begin accruing vacation time immediately, but are not eligible to use it until they have completed 6 months of employment.
Vacation time is accrued on a bi-weekly basis.
Scheduling of vacations is done with the approval of the supervisor and subject to the operational needs of the department. In case of conflicting requests, choice of vacation is given to the employee with greater departmental and university service.
Maximum vacation accruals: No regular full-time employee may accrue more than twice their annual vacation allotment, not to exceed 40 days (eight weeks). Regular, part-time employees may accrue up to 35 days of vacation.
Payment: If a holiday falls within an employee's paid vacation time, the day will be paid as holiday pay. Upon termination, any eligible unused vacation is paid out.
RESPONSIBILITY
The employee must make all requests for vacation to the supervisor in a timely manner as set by department procedure.
Every supervisor must document vacation used by exempt and non-exempt employees and authorize payment to the Payroll Department through the approval on the Kronos Time Card.
Human Resources may grant exceptions to policy.
