In addition to the requirements of the existing undergraduate Health Systems Management major, the five-year program allows students to receive both undergraduate and graduate credit for two GSB courses during the senior year, provided that the students have been conditionally accepted into GSB. Eligible students may waive up to five of the 19 GSB courses required for completion of the M.B.A. degree. These courses can be waived with the achievement of a “B” or better in the business courses included in the undergraduate major. Waiver requirements for the five business courses are as follows:
- MATH 131 waives ISOM 490
- ECON 201 and ECON 202 waive ECON 420
- ISOM 241 waives ISOM 491
- ACCT 201 and ACCT 202 waive ACCT 400
- MGMT 318 and a MGMT elective waive MGMT 470 (the elective course cannot be MGMT 441)
Students continue in the GSB program beginning the summer after receiving the B.S.H.S.M. degree, and complete the requirements for the M.B.A. in one calendar year.
The five-year program requires two internships. The first is the undergraduate
health systems management internship required in the senior year, which provides students with a semester-long experience in a health care work setting. The second internship is BSAD 400: Career Development and Internship Practicum, which is required by the GSB.
