Cuneo Hall opens this summer

<p>Cuneo Hall officially opens its doors this summer to host orientation sessions for the Class of 2016. The four-story building, located adjacent to the East Quad, sets the standard for the level of energy-efficiency in the University’s capital projects.</p>
<p>With its LEED-Gold certification, Cuneo will use about 60 percent less energy than a standard academic facility. The building has a thermally broken exterior and natural ventilation component, which allows occupants to turn off fans and cooling systems, operating the building naturally with no energy, during fair-weather months.</p>
<p>Each classroom has a user interface that alerts occupants when the building is in natural ventilation mode. “Our hope is that whenever people see this indicator light, they will open up the windows,” says Kana Wibbenmeyer, assistant VP for facilities. “If everyone does that, it will only improve the amount of air flow through the building.”</p>
<p>Cuneo features 18 classrooms and office space on the fourth floor, which will be the new home of the Centers of Excellence.</p>

<H3 cmid="Inside Loyola Entry:body" collagestyle="true">Other Projects at Lake Shore Campus</h3>
<p><STRONG cmid="Inside Loyola Entry:body" collagebold="true">New student center</strong><br>Due to construction of an underground service tunnel linking the new center to the Centennial Forum Student Union, the pathway at the University’s gated west entrance will close and foot traffic will be redirected to Loyola Avenue.</p>
<p><STRONG cmid="Inside Loyola Entry:body" collagebold="true">Mundelein Center</strong><br>No classes in Mundelein during summer 2012.</p>
<p><STRONG cmid="Inside Loyola Entry:body" collagebold="true">Madonna della Strada Chapel</strong><br>The chapel garden construction will continue along the lakefront; it is scheduled to reopen in August.</p>
<p><STRONG cmid="Inside Loyola Entry:body" collagebold="true">New residence halls</strong><br>Three residence halls are set to open in August 2012: Bellarmine Hall, Messina Hall, and Marquette South.</p>
