Adding an external link

Adding an External Link in Blackboard provides a means to give your students quick access to online resources directly from your Blackboard course. You can add an External Link to any Content Area.

Once you've logged into Blackboard, choose your course under My Courses on the Login page.

Make sure that

Choose from your course menu any Content Area that you would like to add an External Link to.

  1. Click on the chevron next to Build Content to expand the drop-down menu, then scroll down and select URL.

  2. In the URL Information area, provide a name for your External Link.

  3. Click in the URL field and type in or paste the Web address.

  4. You also have the option to add a text description.

  5. If you have an attachment to supplement the URL, in the Attachments area, select Browse My Computer to search for a file to attach.

  6. In the Options area, select Yes next to Open in a New Window. This will allow your students to access the link without navigating away from your Blackboard course. You can also adjust settings for content availability, tracking views and date and time restrictions.

  7. Click Submit to add the URL.

  8. To edit or delete your URL, click on the chevron next to the URL’s name, then choose Edit or Delete.
