Cable TV Basic Operation and Troubleshooting Guide

BASIC OPERATION
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

BASIC OPERATION

Turning Power On and Off
Press POWER on the remote control while pointing it at the DCT700 to turn the digital receiver on or off.  Be sure the remove control is in cable mode by pressing CABLE and then press POWER on the remove control.

Changing Channels
Press CHANNEL UP or DOWN on the remote control or use the remote to select a channel by entering the channel number and then pressing OK/SELECT (or enter).

Adjusting the Volume
Press VOLUME UP or DOWN on the remote control to adjust the volume.  When you adjust the volume, the volume scale is displayed on the screen.  Press MUTE on the remote control to turn the sound off and on.

On-Screen program Guide
The On-Screen program Guide displays information about TV programs and enables you to access features such as Parental Control or ON DEMAND programs.   To learn more about using the On-Screen Program Guide, you can refer to http://www.comcast.com/newguide.

Picture Quality
Be certain that all cable connections between the digital receiver and your TV, VCR, and other devices are firm and secure.  Loose fittings can compromise picture quality.

Programming Your Remote
You can program your Comcast remote control to operate all of your video devices.  Visit http://www.comcast.com/videoinstall for instructions.

 

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

PROBLEM POSSIBLE SOLUTION
No Sound 1. Press MUTE on the remote control to restore the volume level.
2. Check that the audio cables are connected to the proper input source.
3. If you are watching TV using your VCR/DVD player, be sure your VCR/DVD player is on.
No Picture 1. Check to be sure that all cables are connected properly and firmly secured.  Hand-tighten if necessary.
2.  If you are watching TV using your VCR/DVD player, be sure your VCR/DVD player is on.
Sound is Noisy on One Channel or only Coming from One Speaker 1.  Reconnect the cables and be sure the connections are firm. Make sure wires are not frayed and plugs are not bent or broken.
2. Check that the audio cables are connected to the proper input source.
No Power 1.  Check the power outlet for AC power.
2. Be sure the DCT700 is plugged into an outlet that is always live.
3. Check that the TV is tuned to channel 4, which is the output channel for the DCT700.
Remote Control Does Not Work 1. Press CABLE on the remote control to ensure the remote is in cable mode.
2. Be sure that nothing is blocking a clear line of sight between the DCT700 and the remote control.  Aim the remote control directly at the DCT700, not the TV or VCR.
3. Change the batteries in your remote control.
Poor Audio Quality 1. For best audio quality, go to "Setup" in the Main Manu of the On-Screen Program Guide.  In the "Audio Setup" folder, select "Optimal Stereo" and change "NO" to "YES" by pressing the right arrow on the remote.
Guide Has No Data 1. Unplug the power to the DCT700 and plug in the unit again.  It will take the DCT700 a few minutes to collect the data.
