PC Refresh Program
Information Technology Services (ITS), with approval from the Provost's Office, has instituted the PC Refresh Program to upgrade and standardize University owned computer workstations. The first phase of the Refresh Program will target out-of-date computer equipment that cannot run the current versions of software. Plans for the second phase are underway.
Each department was asked to assign a liaison to work with ITS to make sure their department needs were met. This system has worked very well. The liaisons were extremely helpful assisting users in backing up their data, deciding the placement of computers and scheduling the appointments for replacements. Please check the list of department liaisons and notify Kathy Ryan, kryan1@luc.edu or Sean Obrock, sobrock@luc.edu if there are any changes or additions.
Because ITS is dedicated to distributing up-to-date software and to providing current data storage methods, it is vital that aging workstations are replaced on a regular basis. The oldest University machines were identified by an inventory survey taken in February 2005. They will be replaced with new Dell workstations selected by ITS. The new standard workstation provides several improved features:
- Intel Core 2Duo 1.86GHz processor
- 2GB RAM
- 160GB hard drive
- DVDRW/CD combo drive
- 128MB USB memory key
- optical mouse
- 17-inch flat panel monitor
- Windows XP SP2 operating system
