Business Intelligence / Data Warehouse Strategy

 

 

May 2010

  • The Data Governance Committee continues to review source data, data policies, and data definitions, specifically focused on Faculty information.
  • The DW/BI Strategy, Technical Assessment, and RFP were reviewed with the Executive Co-Sponsors from Office of the CIO and Provost's Office on May 24, 2010.
  • IT Executive Steering Committee approved issuance of RFP to identified vendors.
  • Next Steps:  Send out RFP to selected vendors.

March 2010

  • The Data Governance Committee is reviewing data policies. In February 2010 the DW/BI Strategy document was sent to the CIO for approval and the Technical Assessment document recommendations for the particular DW/BI solution was sent to the DW/BI Executive Co-sponsors. With approval of the Technical Assessment document, the RFP, which will be completed in Q2, will be sent to identified vendors for response.
  • Next Steps:  (1) Publish Technology Recommendation Assessment for the selected DW/BI technology. (2) Send out RFP to selected vendors. 

December 2009

  • The Data Governance Committee was launched and held inaugural meeting. The DW/BI Strategy document is undergoing edits and will be published with approval from the CIO. Conference call held with George Washington Univ and Arizona State Univ. to help complete the technical assessment of available technologies. Once the technical assessment is approved an RFP will be sent to identified vendors.
  • Next Steps:  (1) Publish Technology Recommendation Assessment for the selected DW/BI technology. (2) Send out RFP to selected vendors.

August 2009

  • Strategy has been finalized by the project team and delivered to the CIO for final approval (800).
  • Projects created for the Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence Program (979), the technical assessment of available technologies (980), and for the creation of the data governance committee (981).
  • Next Steps:  (1) Create Technology Recommendation Assessment for the selected DW/BI technology, (2) Present the proposed structure and member list for the Data Governance Committee at the 9/3/2009 ITESC meeting, (3) Closeout PSS 800.

May 2009

  • Draft recommendations finalized and Director of Institutional Research onboard as a key sponsor.
  • Preparations for the 6/11/09 ITESC meeting continue.
  • Next Steps:  (1) Present recommendations to the ITESC.

March 2009

  • All 17 interviews held with selected functional groups.
  • Interview summaries have been reviewed by interviewees.
  • Draft of 5-year data warehouse strategy completed by consultant.
  • Next Steps:  (1) ITS project team will review the draft strategy on 3/17/09, (2) Submit the finalized strategy to the executive sponsors. 

 

November 2008

  • Data Warehouse consultants interviewed. Laura Reeves from StarSoft Solutions selected based on industry experience and fit to Loyola.
  • Multiple meetings held between ITS and the DW consultant to share information and start assessment at LUC.
  • Kick off email sent by the Project Sponsor to targeted departments and consumers of data.
  • Three out of fifteen identified interview sessions scheduled.
  • Next Steps: (1) Schedule remaining interviews,  (2) Create five year strategic plan.

August 2008
