Learning Management System (LMS) STRATEGIC PLANNING (Blackboard Sourcing)

  • Completed review of Sourcing Options.
  • Presented recommendation to IT Executive Steering Committee, recommendation accepted as proposed.
  • Closed the sourcing part of the project.
  • Confirmed Community System as an academic need; created project request to commence work.
  • Next Steps: (1) Work with Academic Affairs to finalize requirements for a Community System.

August 2008

  • Minor concerns regarding roadmap plans for the Blackboard product as it relates to open source and “mixed” course management environments.
  • Upgraded to Blackboard 8.0.  Working with Academic Technology Committee to identify faculty needs for LMS and bringing a more structured pilot of the Sakai system to fruition.
  • Assessment of resources required to in-source Blackboard has been completed. 
  • Next Steps: (1) Work with Academic Affairs to identify possible benefits of acquisition and implementation of the Blackboard Community System. (2) Build FY10 budget for Blackboard platform.

  • Next Steps: (1) Assess the costs of in-sourcing Blackboard as compared to current ASP arrangement. (2) Work with Academic Affairs to identify possible benefits of acquisition and implementation of the Blackboard Community System.
