Statistical and Research-Related Software

The following statistical software packages, with the exception of NVivo 7 and SAS are available in all open access labs. Go to Loyola Software, and click the Statistical Applications tab to find:

Clementine 11.1 Data Mining package (from SPSS); unlimited use license (300+).

HLM 6.04 - Hierarchical Linear Modeling package (SSI Central); 25 concurrent user license.

LISREL 8.80 - Structural Equation Modeling package (SSI Central); 25 concurrent user license.
SSICENTRAL offers a free Student Version of LISREL to load on your home computer. Access the SSICENTRAL page by clicking on the LISREL 8.80 link above. At the SSICENTRAL home page, click on FREE DOWNLOADS.

Minitab 15 - comprehensive statistics package; 65 concurrent user license.

*NVivo 7 - qualitative research software; 64 per seat licenses.
With the Introduction of 'NVivo 7' is is possible to electronically download a 12 month 'Student' version of the software directly from the QSR website. Each Student can download thei rown individual copy. Anyone can also download a free 30 day trial version of the sfotware and if the 'Student' version license 'key' is entered into the Trial version the time compounds to 12 months. FACULTY NVIVO USE VIA LOYOLA OFFICE DESKTOP
Faculty who wish to use NVivo 7 on their Loyola office desktop must have the software 'associated' to their Loyola uvid. To request uvid association to the software please contact Lauree Garvin at 773-508-7653, lgarvin@luc.edu, if you need a uvid association to NVivo 7.

*Sullivan Center, Room 253 -- all machines; classroom lab; 24 machines.
Water Tower Campus
*25E, Lab 710 -- all machines; classroom lab; 25 machines.

PLEASE NOTE: While Sullivan 253 and WTC 710 are open access labs they can be reserved for classes. If a class is in session the lab will not be available to the general student population for that time slot. To check availability of these labs refer to the weekly schedule that is posted on the lab door.

*SAS 9.1.3 - comprehensive statistics package; 200 per seat license.

SAS OPEN ACCESS LAB LOCATIONS

 Information Commons, First Floor -- machines labelled with SAS logo; open access lab; 20 machines - 10 on north end of first floor and 10 on south end.
Water Tower Campus
25 East Pearson 709 -- all machines; public access lab; 24 machines.

PLEASE NOTE: In the Information Commons and WTC 709 labs, if the software has not been previously used on a machine it will install on the machine you are using when you click on the program name. The installation takes about five minutes to complete.

FACULTY SAS USE VIA LOYOLA OFFICE DESKTOP

SAS FOR HOME USE BY FACULTY
Faculty members may purchase a copy of SAS 9.1.3 for their home machine through Academic Technology Services for $150.00. Once an intital purchase has been made upgrades are free for as long as the faculty member remains at Loyola. Contact Jack Corliss at 773-508-7606, jcorlis@luc.edu, if you are interested in home purchase.

LOCAL INSTALLS OF SAS ON LOYOLA PURCHASED LAPTOPS
Faculty members with Loyola owned laptops may have the software loaded locally on the laptop for use away from Loyola without any additional license charge. Contact Jack Corliss at 773-508-7606, jcorlis@luc.edu, if you need SAS installed locally on a Loyola purchased laptop (the laptop will have a Loyola bar code).

SPSS 15.0 - comprehensive statistics package; unlimited use license (300+).

For students, SPSS offers a Graduate Pack, a Student Version, and a Career Starter for use on your home computer. The Graduate Pack is available in both Windows (v. 15) and Mac (v. 11) formats includes a full version of SPSS Base with no case or variable limits; two add-on modules, SPSS Advanced Models and SPSS Regression Models; and software for structural equation modeling, Amos (available only on Windows). The Graduate Package can be updated. To update your license call SPSS Sales at 1-800-543-2185 and select menu option 2.

The Student Version, by contrast, includes only SPSS Base with limits of 50 variables and 1500 cases. In addition you cannot add modules onto this version, the license is for four years only, and you cannot upgrade the license.

The Career Starter, like the Student Version, has full Base system (no access to Regression or Advanced Models modules) and a four year license that cannot be upgraded. However, unlike the Student Version, there are no variable or case limits with the Career Starter. This version is suitable for courses where only univariate and bivariate statistical procedures, e.g., undergraduate statistical courses, executive MBA program.

You must be currently registered as a Loyola student to buy these packages. The Graduate Student version and the Student version are available for purchase online from JourneyEd. The Graduate Pack (v. 15.0 or 16.0, Windows; v. 16.0 Mac) is available for $199.98 and the Student Version (v. 15.0) for $89.98.

The Graduate Pack (v. 15.0) can be rented from e-academy at the rate of $79.99 for six months and $139.99 for 12 months. The Career Starter (v. 15.0) is available for rental from e-academy for $45.99 for six months and $79.99 for 12 months.

Please note that the Barnes and Noble Loyola bookstores do not sell the Graduate Pack, the Student Version, or the Career Starter.

Facutly who want access to more modules than those included in the Loyola license may be interested in The SPSS Faculty Pack available from e-academy. The Faculty Pack includes the full SPSS Base product, with no limitations, plus an additional 12 add-on modules for extended functionality. The add-on modules include: SPSS Advanced Models™, SPSS Regression Models™, SPSS Conjoint™, SPSS Categories™, SPSS Tables™, SPSS Trends™, SPSS Exact Tests™, SPSS Maps™, SPSS Complex Samples™, SPSS Missing Values™, SPSS Data Validation™, and SPSS Classification Trees™. The software is available in a one-year, non-renewable, single user license and includes technical support.

STATA 10, Intercooled - comprehensive statistics package favored by economics and political science; 60 concurrent user license.

SYSTAT 11 - comprehensive statistics package favoured by biological and medical sciences; unlmited use license (300+).
