Technology Assistance for Faculty
1. Getting Help
The Technology Support Center serves as a single contact point for all technical services from 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday. For help with any of your computing needs, call 4-4444 (on-campus) or 773-508-7190 (off-campus). You can also fill out an online request form or email helpdesk@luc.edu.
2. Know Your ID and Password
You will receive your ID and temporary password from your department or school's administrative staff. Your gives you access to the Loyola University computer network. You can find more information about your ID and password here.
3. Get Your Campus Card
The Loyola University Campus Card is the first step accessing technology and is the official identification card for faculty, staff and students. It is used as a building access key, a parking pass, and can be used as a pre-paid debit card using Rambler Bucks. Your department will provide you with an authorization form. Bring the form to the Campus Card Office at the Sullivan Center at the Lakeshore Campus to obtain your card.
4. Log in to the Network
You will need to log in to the Novell network with your ID and temporary password to access your shared drives, networked printers, and your GroupWise e-mail. The first time you log in, you will be prompted to create a new password. Your password must be at least 8 characters long and have at least 2 numbers. 5. Get to Know Your Drives
You have access to network drives on your computer through the Novell network. Every staff member has private space on the server to store data and also has space on the server to share files with members in their respective department. Learn about the configuration of your network drives here.
6. Get to Know Your Software
Loyola University desktop computers come standard with software applications that support most of the day-to-day computing needs of employees. Purchases of new software or upgrades to existing software are processed through your department. If you have instructional software that you would like used in a course and installed in a computer lab, you must submit a formal request to ITS.
7. Manage Your New Password
Go to Loyola’s Personal Account Manager (PAM) to set up security questions and answers so you can reset your password at any time if you forget it. PAM is an extremely useful tool because it gives you a way to retrieve a forgotten password without contacting the Technology Support Center. However, you need to establish security questions first. Be prepared for the future and do this now!
8. Log in to GroupWise
Your new email will be your ID@luc.edu. Your GroupWise password will be the same as the one you use to log in to your computer. Learn more about using GroupWise here.
9. Install your Printer
Many departments utilizes iPrint printers, which allows any supported printer on the Loyola network to be easily installed from a website and a single software application. You can follow these steps to install a printer using iPrint. If your department does not have an iPrint printer, contact the Technology Support Center 4-4444 to arrange for ITS to install the correct drivers on your printer.
10. Learn About Your Telephone
All faculty members will receive a five-digit telephone extension that will begin with a different number depending on your primary Loyola campus. Off-campus numbers at campus begin with the same prefixes.

You can contact anyone within Loyola by dialing the five-digit extension number.
To Call an Off-Campus Number:
Dial 9 + number. Staff members do not have access to long distance without a special authorization code that will require departmental approval. Download the authorization form here.

To find the phone numbers of other staff members at Loyola, you can use the online directory. Every staff member at Loyola is also listed in your GroupWise address book.
Set up Your Voicemail

11. Familiarize Yourself With the Online Staff Service Applications
You have short-cuts to online administrative applications that will simplify your HR needs at Loyola. You may not be able to login to these systems until you are in the Loyola system for a few weeks. However, it is good to become familiar with the location of these shortcuts.
- Go to the Start Menu
- Go to Loyola Software
- Go to Administrative Applications. The Kronos Web Timecard allows you to submit and approve your hours online. The Lawson Employee Self Service allows you to see your payroll and direct deposit information online in detail on the web. The Finance Forms will take you to the Loyola website that has the electronic forms and instructions to process financial transactions at Loyola.
12. Log in to Blackboard
Blackboard is Loyola's web-based course management tool to facilitate and support online education. Blackboard course shells are automatically created for all courses on the Loyola registration system. Loyola faculty have the option of using Blackboard to supplement their courses. 13. Login to LOCUS
LOCUS is Loyola's integrated Student Information System that centralizes a collection of Web-based services for students and faculty. LOCUS allows students to register for courses, view grades for any semester, view schedules, and view personal account information in one centralized place.
Faculty use LOCUS to:
- View teaching schedules and rosters
- Submit grades

14. Reserve an Electronic Classroom.
Loyola University has 101 technology-enhanced "electronic classrooms'. These classrooms contain an LCD projector, sound system, VCR, and a networked computer. You may also submit special requests from media services for AV equipment such as wireless microphones, slide projectors, cassette players, etc. In rooms where equipment is not installed, equipment can be set up by contacting the Technology Support Center.

15. Reserve a Computer Lab
Loyola University faculty can reserve general use computer labs for testing, classes, and other selected purposes. To reserve a lab, please fill our and submit the online reservation form.
