One-time steps to prepare to connect to the VPN
Connecting to the VPN after the one-time steps have been completed
Note: Internet Explorer 7 users must add https://vpn.luc.edu as a trusted site. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security. Click on Trusted Sites, then click on Sites. Type https://vpn.luc.edu into the top line and then click Add, then Close.
Once you have completed the one-time steps and are comfortable connecting to the VPN, you can simply open your browser and go to https://vpn.luc.edu to connect.
Internet Explorer Client Certificate Install:
1. Upon successful processing of the VPN access request, a confirmation email message from “Loyola VPN Administrator 8-6086 <InfoSec@luc.edu>” will arrive containing an auto-generated ‘private key’ password and a client certificate (clientcert.p12) file attachment.

2. Save the attachment to your workstation’s desktop and double-click it to launch the “Certificate Import Wizard” as shown below:

3. Click ‘Next’ until greeted with a screen similar to the one below. Enter your password and place a checkbox next to the option to ‘Make this key exportable’. Please note: This is not your UVID password, but rather the ‘private key’ included in your welcome email in Step 1 You will only use this password for installing your certificate, so you do not need to remember it.. 
4. Continue to accept the default options by clicking ‘Next’ through the remainder of the wizard and ‘Finish’ at its conclusion. You may see a security window to confirm the installation of the certificate as shown below, click ‘Yes’ to the certificate import if this window appears.

Internet Explorer First Time Setup:
1. Using Internet Explorer 6, navigate to https://vpn.luc.edu. You will be prompted to choose a digital certificate. In most cases, you will have only one choice, the certificate installed earlier. You should select the option with your UVID and click ‘OK’ to continue.

2. After a short detection process, a message will appear indicating ‘A new browser component is available’ and Internet Explorer will block the pop-up as shown below. Locate and click the notification bar near the top of the window that says “The previous site might require the following ActiveX control: ‘InstallerControl.cab’ from ‘F5 Networks’. Click here to install…”. Select ‘Install Active X Control’ to begin installing the F5 software.

3. A security warning will appear, confirming to install the software. Click Install. The program will install itself, which can take several minutes.

Internet Explorer Initiating VPN connection:
Using Internet Explorer 6, navigate to https://vpn.luc.edu. You will be prompted to choose a digital certificate. In most cases, you will have only one choice, the certificate installed earlier. You should select the option with your UVID and click ‘OK’ to continue.

Arrival at the VPN login screen confirms the workstation satisfies the prerequisites and completion of the one-time client installation. If you do not have antivirus software installed, you will need to install antivirus software. A free antivirus program for non-commercial use can be found at http://free.grisoft.com.
1. Enter your UVID and password, then click Logon.

2. On the ‘Home’ page, click on the link entitled “Loyola VPN Connection’.

3. A small window will appear showing your network status.

4. This small window maintains your VPN connection and must remain open for the duration of your stay. It should automatically minimize to your taskbar. You may double-click the tray icon at any time to review your connection status and summary.

5. To terminate your VPN session, simply click the ‘terminate’ link as shown in the figure in Step 2. Logging out will return you to VPN portal.
