Why Participate?
- Get involved in the Loyola Community

Select one of the following three topics:
1. The Student Promise is a document representing the voice and spirit of the student body. It also embodies the beliefs and values of students. Write an essay discussing how the Student Promise does or does not embody your values.
2. Write an essay discussing how you live out The Student Promise.
3. Write an essay discussing why The Student Promise is an important part of the Loyola University Chicago community.
Contest Rules
- All entries must be typewritten and double-spaced.
- Each submission must include a cover sheet including your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, topic selected from above list, major area of study and grade level.
- The deadline for entries is Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Late entries will not be accepted.
- You must be 18 or older and a Loyola University Chicago student (defined as any person who is admitted and deposited, enrolled or registered for study at LUC for any academic period. See page 8 of the Student Handbook for more information) in order to participate in the contest.
- The winner for the Student Promise Essay Contest will be announced on our website www.luc.edu/thestudentpromise the week of March 23rd. The winners will also be notified by email and telephone.
- Essay must be the sole work of the entrant.
- Your essay will be the property of Loyola University Chicago.
- Essays will not be returned.
- The essay must be between 1000 and 1500 words.

Judging Criteria
Essays will be judged on quality of content and style of writing. Judges will be looking for clarity and effective organization of thoughts. The winner will have proven themselves to fully understand The Student Promise, as well as have successfully fulfilled one of the three topic requirements.
Prize
All entries will compete for a one-time Loyola University Chicago $500 scholarship. The scholarship will be disbursed by end of the spring 08’ semester. Prize amount will stay the same; however, prize details are subject to change.
