Anonymous Grading
For courses in which the final grade is determined in whole or in part by a written examination, those examinations are graded anonymously. Each semester, all students receive an identification number generated by the university computer. The number is used to identify students on examinations. This identification number is known only by the School of Law registrar. Under no circumstances may a faculty member discover or determine the identity of a student by his/her examination number until final grades have been submitted.
In those courses in which students may receive extra credit for class participation or other effort, or in cases in which faculty reserve the right to lower final grades because of lack of participation, the faculty member submits names of students who are to receive or lose such credit to the registrar, who will make the appropriate calculations. This process does not break the student's anonymity.
