Advocacy Program

Professional Programs in Advocacy

Loyola's extensive programs in advocacy are not intended only for law students.

The highly-regarded programs of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy are made available to lawyers across the country.

The annual Philip H. Corboy Lecture features a prominent speaker on some aspect of advocacy, and is open to the professional community.

Loyola's trial advocacy teachers are regularly involved in offering skills training to members of the practicing bar, through public and private continuing legal education (CLE) programs. In the summer of 2004, Prof. James P. Carey and William X. Elward of the part-time advocacy faculty traveled to Santiago de Chile at the invitation of the Law Faculty of Universidad Alberto Hurtado to train Chilean lawyers in advocacy skills, as that country's new code of criminal procedure begins to delegate advocacy responsibilities to lawyers and away from the traditional judge-centered focus of the civil law tradition. This program took place as a part of the law school's continuing cooperation programs with the Chilean law school, including the annual study week in Chile.
