Civitas ChildLaw Center
Academic Programs
The Loyola Civitas ChildLaw Center and Clinic offer students in each of its degree programs a rich interdisciplinary curriculum, and the opportunity to represent child clients, learn about the latest child welfare research, edit a national publication for child welfare professionals and earn credit through externships in Chicago's large and active child advocacy community. Highlights of the programs include:
-
Child Law J.D. Fellowship: Each year, approximately seven to ten ChildLaw Fellows are selected on the basis of their academic ability, leadership potential and commitment to careers as child advocates. To support and encourage this career choice, Fellows are awarded tuition and internship support. It is the hope and expectation of the Civitas ChildLaw Center that Fellows will become leaders in the field of child advocacy. Although the program is in its early years of development, already nearly 40 ChildLaw Fellows are working on behalf of children's interests throughout the United States. Some of these Fellows provide direct representation to child clients and others work in policy development, research and judicial administration that focus on children. - Master of Laws (LL.M.) Degree: Intended for graduates of U.S. and foreign law schools, this program is keyed to the individual background and interests of attorneys and emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, advanced skills training and scholarly research on legal issues affecting children.
-
Online Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) in Children's Law & Policy: The only program of its kind in the nation, the M.J. program is specially designed to give professionals in social work, education, health care, psychology, law enforcement and other disciplines a better understanding of the law and an ability to function more effectively in the legal system on behalf of children and families.
