Student Opportunities: Awards and Honors
Loyola recognizes the academic achievements in a variety of ways.Each year, an Awards Recognition Ceremony is held, at which students who have distinguished themselves in various academic pursuits are presented with awards. Among the awards presented at the ceremony is the Thomas R. Mulroy Prize for Excellence in Evidence.
In addition, a number of awards for academic achievement are presented annually to graduating seniors, and their honors are noted at the graduation ceremony. These awards include the following:
- Hugh L. Dick Memorial Award
- Judge John C. Hayes Award
- William J. Kilbridge Memorial Award
- Judge John V. McCormick Award
- Thomas L. Owens Award
- Chief Justice Roger B. Taney Award
- Chief Justice Edward D. White Award
Law students are also eligible for honors presented by Loyola University Chicago. These include the following:
In the fall and the spring semesters, students who earn at least 6.0 credit hours and achieve a grade point average for that semester of 3.35 or above are named to the Dean's List.
The top 25% in each division will graduate cum laude.
The top 10% in each division will graduate magna cum laude.
Up to the top two students in each annual graduating class without regard to division (subject to the Dean's approval) may graduate summa cum laude.
