Transfer Applicants
Students who have attended a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association or is a member of the Association of American Law Schools may be admitted upon proof of such prior study in law and upon such adjustment of credits and subject matter as may, in the opinion of the dean, be required. Typically, the committee will only consider applicants in the top 25% of their class.
Applicants must have completed two full semesters as a full-time or part-time student at their current law school. Applicants will not be considered if they have not completed these credit hours. Any credits they have earned above the 30 credit hours will not be transferred. The remaining credit hours must be completed at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
The number of transfer candidates offered admission each year depends on the number of spaces available in the class, and on the strength of each candidate's records.
As a transfer student to Loyola University Chicago School of Law, the sole source of funding for your education is loans (transfer students cannot apply for application fee waivers). Make sure that you send a FAFSA report to Loyola University Chicago (School Code 001710). It is also your responsibility to apply for the Stafford Loan and any private loans you may wish to take. You will need to attend a loan entrance interview during the first full week of school. Please contact the admission and financial assistance office for more information.
Transfer applicants must submit a completed application form along with a $50 non-refundable application fee. The deadline for submitting the application is July 1. All other documents must be received by July 15.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Transfer students are responsible for sending their immunization records to the Wellness Center.
ON CAMPUS INTERVIEWING - Transfer students are eligible to participate in on campus interviewing. If accepted for the fall, please contact Career Services.

Application Instructions (PDF)
- Essay: The essay should state the reasons for applying to transfer the law school. A brief description is listed on the transfer application
- LSAT/LSDAS Test Report: It is the applicant's responsibility to register with LSDAS. Loyola University Chicago School of Law requires official copies of this report and will request the report upon receipt of the application. Copies of LSDAS reports from the applicant's current law school will not be accepted.
- Law School Transcripts: An official copy of an applicant's law school transcript is required. The transcript must include Fall and Spring semester grades. This transcript must come directly from the school.
- Undergraduate Transcripts: If the copy of the undergraduate transcript in the LSDAS report is complete, the Admissions Committee can use this copy for review puroposes. If admitted, transfer students will be required to have their undergraduate institution submit an official copy of their transcripts.
- Letter of Good Standing: Transfer applicants must submit a letter of good standing from the dean of the law school the applicant is presently attending. This letter must include any disciplinary actions taken either for academic or social reasons.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: At least one of the letters must be from a law school faculty member who taught a course other than legal writing. Our office prefers that applicants submit their letters of recommendation to Law Services for inclusion in their LSDAS report. An applicant can have the letters sent directly to the Admissions Office. If this is done, the letters must be sealed in an envelope and the recommender should sign his/her name across the seal of the envelope.
- Law School Class Ranking: The class rank must be clearly noted on either the letter of good standing or the law school transcript. The committee typically will only consider applicants in the top 25 percent of their class.
- Resume: Although a resume is not a required part of the application, one may be included if the applicant desires.
