2008 Patent Law Interview Program - Law School Information
Law Schools
Welcome Schools
Registration Information- Law schools must register by Friday, February 15th so their students can begin registering
February 27th. Law schools will not be charged to participate. When law schools register, they must
designate a Patent Program Liasion to streamline communications between students and patent program
administrations.
- Only students and legal employers will be charged to participate. The charge for students to participate is $35.00 and is NON-REFUNDABLE.
- Law students are required to register with their Office of Career Services between February 27th and April 1st at 5:00 p.m. CST. The fee to register is $35.00 per student.
- When law schools register, they must designate a Patent Program Liaison to streamline communication between students and patent program administrators.
- After all law students are registered, we will email each school liaison a list of their registered students. Liaisons must (1) verify that each registered student attends your law school and (2) confirm each registered student's class year and expected graduation date via return email.
- Law students will be required to go to their liaison with questions and issues. If the liaison is unable to resolve the matter, liaisons are asked to contact our office at law-patentprogram@luc.edu for assistance. Students should not contact our office. All questions and issues should be resolved between the school's liaison and our office.
Student Eligibility to Participate:
Please note that ONLY law students returning to law school in the Fall of 2008 may participate. Students beginning school in the fall, students graduating this year, or your alumni are NOT eligible. This program is for summer associate and entry-level attorney positions for 2009. The only exception is for a law graduate studying for an LL.M. in Intellectual Property.
Please make sure to inform your students that registering for the
program does not guarantee them an interview. This program allows
employers to choose who they interview, which means that not all
students will receive interviews. However, over 900 students received
interview opportunities last year.

RESUME COLLECT Employers
Each year there are firms who cannot attend the Patent Program who wish to accept resumes from students. We will keep you and your students informed on this website, through Symplicity and via email of any employer who decides to collect resumes this year.
Patent Bar Exam Requirement
Virtually all employers want students who have taken or plan to take the patent bar exam (please note that not all computer science majors will qualify). The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office annually publishes requirements for taking the patent bar exam. To learn more go to www.uspto.gov/web/offices/dcom/olia/oed/examregist.htm.

Symplicity:
Symplicity will be used again this year to schedule interviews. Law school liaisons will have access to their students' Symplicity accounts. This will be helpful when questions arise about interview schedules, firms, etc. Each liaison will receive a Symplicity username and password via email in order to answer student questions and to monitor their students' Symplicity activity.
HOW THE SYMPLICITY INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS WORKS:
- After all employers register, we email each law school liaison a list of participating employers.
- Students enter contact information, bid on employers and upload resumes into Symplicity between April 15 and May 2. Students may bid on up to 35 employers.
- After students submit preferences and resumes, we distribute the resumes to the employers, who pre-screen them and choose who they wish to interview, plus alternates.
- Symplicity then creates the interview schedules based solely on employer choices and student availability. Soon thereafter, the interview schedules are made available to students.
- There will be a short cancellation period, during which, students may cancel interviews. After we determine who has cancelled which interviews, students who are alternates may be assigned interviews.
- LIAISONS: PLEASE COMMUNICATE THIS INFORMATION TO ALL STUDENTS WHO REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM AS EARLY IN THE PROCESS AS POSSIBLE: All students who receive interviews are required to register, in person, at the Chicago Marriott Suites Hotel the evening before their interviews (4:00–7:00 p.m.) OR MORNING OF THEIR INTERVIEWS (7:30–8:30 A.M.). This is MANDATORY and we will make no exceptions. If students do not register at one of these times, they will lose their interview slots for the entire day. Please understand that this requirement allows us to determine who has not shown up for their interviews and fill the open slots with alternates. Students who are designated "alternates" MUST be present in the registration room the morning (7:30–8:30 a.m.) of the interview to receive empty interview slots.
