3. WAIVERS
If an employer's listing in Symplicity states that the hiring criteria will be waived for Law Journal, Moot Court, or other criteria, those waivers are automatic for that employer. You do not need to do anything to get the waiver. If you meet the waiver criteria, you just need to bid on the employer, and you will not be eliminated from the lottery based on class rank.

You may wish to request a waiver from a specific employer for whom you do not meet the required criteria. It is only likely to be considered by an employer if you are very close to the hiring criteria (missed it by 5% or less), have a special background that makes you a particularly good match for the employer, and/or have a personal connection with an employer. Please use good judgement when requesting waivers.

Sample letter requesting a waiver
This letter should be used only when you are very close to meeting a firm's hiring criteria. You may begin requesting waivers on July 1, 2008, and if the employer chooses to waive their criteria, they must contact our office on or before July 14, 2008.

Sample letter requesting an interview

This letter should be used if you met a firm's hiring criteria, placed a bid on that firm, but did not receive an interview through the lottery process.

4. THANK YOU NOTES
Although it is always appropriate to thank interviewers, thank you notes for OCI interviews are not necessary or expected. You can save your thank you notes for after call-back interviews. If you do choose to send thank you notes, handwritten notes, typewritten letters, and emails are all appropriate. Be certain not to use an inappropriately casual tone in an email. Proofread your thank you notes carefully, no less than you would before handing in a legal document.

5. PREPARING FOR INTERVIEWS

6. JOINT INTERVIEWS WITH OTHER CHICAGO-AREA LAW SCHOOLS
A handful of employers conduct "joint interviews," meeting students from multiple Chicago schools at one Chicago law school location. Our office will coordinate with the other law schools to create the schedule. Please follow any specific instructions listed for the employer.

7. EMAILS FROM LAW-OCI@LUC.EDU
Always be sure to keep a close eye out for emails from law-oci@luc.edu. They will contain OCI updates and information regarding additional employers.
