Marguerite Angelari
Goedert Elder Law Professor
Director, Elder Law Initiative

Biography
Professor Angelari joined the faculty and created the Elder Law Initiative in July, 2000. The Elder Law Initiative's threefold mission is to sensitize law students to the unique legal needs of the elderly, particularly the low-income elderly, prepare students to serve the legal needs of the elderly throughout their careers, and serve as a resource to the judiciary, Loyola University, advocates, and service providers for the elderly. The Elder Law Initiative is the only law school based elder law program in Chicago. The Elder Law Initiative includes the Elder Law Clinic, where law and social work students work together on actual adult guardianship and elder abuse cases. In addition to supervising students in the clinic and teaching the classroom component of the clinic, Professor Angelari teaches the Elder Law Seminar, International and Comparative Elder Law, Disability Law and AIDS Law. Professor Angelari's academic and advocacy efforts focus on adult guardianship, advance directives, elder abuse and neglect, long term care, gender and aging, and disability law.

Professor Angelari graduated from law school cum laude in 1993 from The American University where she received the Dean's Award for Professional Responsibility for outstanding clinical work. While in law school, Professor Angelari co-founded the American University Journal on Gender and the Law. Following graduation, Professor Angelari served as a law clerk for the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and later as a trial attorney for the Family Division of the D.C. Corporation Counsel's Office. She then created the Bruce A. Kaufman Center for Family Law at the Women's Law Center of Maryland and served as the Center's Legal Director. In this position, she engaged in litigation and legislative reform efforts on family law issues including domestic violence, child support, and child custody. Following this, she taught in the Family Law Clinic at the University of Baltimore.
