Description of Chair and Search Process
Loyola University Chicago School of Law, a well established urban Jesuit law school is currently seeking candidates to fill its recently created chair in advocacy, made possible by a generous contribution from the Chicago personal injury law firm of Cooney & Conway.
This twelve month position will entail an appointment to an endowed chair to be made at the level of full Professor of Law.
The responsibilities of the Cooney & Conway Chair include scholarly research and publication; teaching courses in advocacy law areas, such as (but not limited to) civil trial practice, pre-trial practice, complex litigation, civil procedure, evidence, federal courts, dispute resolution, consumer protection; participation in faculty governance; active involvement in student mentoring and counseling; engagement with faculty in areas related to legal advocacy studies, both within the School of Law, and the University; together with other chairs and senior faculty, providing leadership for integrative research activities; significant engagement with academic institutions and professional organizations, including frequent participation in meetings and symposia.
The qualifications for the Cooney & Conway Chair are:

A Juris Doctor degree (J.D.)

Broad recognition in the academy for legal scholarship in areas related to advocacy

A significant body of published work
-
A clearly developed research agenda

A strong record of law school teaching
Additional desirable qualifications include litigation experience at the trial level; strong, demonstrable commitment to social justice; experience and/or interest in participation in continuing legal education activities; history of active involvement with legal practice groups in areas related to advocacy.
