About

Ms. Michelle Hoppes currently serves as the President and CEO of Michigan Professional Insurance Exchange (MPIE).  MPIE is reciprocal insurance company specializing in providing medical malpractice and general liability insurance and risk management consulting for hospitals and physicians in Michigan.  In this role she leads the Enterprise Risk Management functions with the Board and insurance regulatory bodies. She has also served as Senior Vice President of Global Risk Management & Loss Control at Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG  where she was responsible for developing loss control products and services, and overseeing an in-house team that provides consulting and client services to policyholders, helping them assess and manage their organizational enterprise risk. She served as the lead healthcare subject matter-risk management  expert and resource globally. She also served as National Director of Healthcare Risk Management & Patient Safety and Senior Vice President at Sedgwick Claims Management Services. In this role she served as the lead expert for health system clients assessing and implementing Enterprise Risk Management methods.  Ms. Hoppes has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, enterprise risk management, clinical risk management, patient safety, and performance improvement. She specializes in providing customized and innovative consulting with a primary focus on risk transfer vehicles and enterprise risk management approaches. She is a frequently published author and speaker on healthcare risk management, ERM, and patient safety. She served as President of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) in 2012, the nation's premier industry group for healthcare risk management professionals, as well as a board member and secretary of the Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation. She has also completed the AHA/ASHRM/NPSF Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship. She has been the recipient of several distinguished awards, including the designation of Distinguished Fellow of ASHRM and is certified in both risk and quality management. She is the ASHRM-ERM chair of the advisory committee of the Board and lead ERM certificate educational program faculty.  She has served as author for the ASHRM ERM pearls and ERM whitepapers.  She has also served as faculty on ERM for RIMS national meeting. Ms. Hoppes is an RN and holds a Master of Science in healthcare management and certifications in risk management and quality review.
