Ms. Scielzo is Special Counsel in the Health Care Practice of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP, resident in the Washington D.C. office. Her practice consists of advising health systems, hospitals, academic medical centers, physician organizations, pharmaceutical companies and medical device companies in a broad range of health care transactional, compliance and regulatory matters, with specialized expertise in fraud and abuse counseling (including the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, False Claims Act, and state law equivalents) and transactions (hospital-physician, merger & acquisition, and private equity). Ms. Scielzo is also experienced in developing corporate compliance programs and conducting compliance reviews, and regularly assists clients with day-to-day compliance challenges relating to reimbursement, provider enrollment and EMTALA, among others.
A leader in the health law academic community, Ms. Scielzo has assisted several law schools with the development of health law curricula for their JD and LLM programs. She teaches a wide range of courses on the subject of health care fraud and abuse, compliance, governance, and mergers & acquisitions at various law schools, including Loyola University Chicago School of Law, American University Washington College of Law, and Georgetown University Law Center.
Prior to joining Pillsbury, Ms. Scielzo practiced health care law for over eleven years with Jones Day in their Washington, Atlanta and Cleveland offices. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Scielzo worked as a health care strategy analyst at the Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C. and coauthored articles published in distinguished clinical journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association and Critical Care Medicine.
Ms. Scielzo is an active leader and member of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), having served for many years as a member of the Planning Committee for the AHLA Fundamentals of Health Law Conferences. She currently serves as the Chair of that Committee. She is a frequent speaker and author in the field of health law.
