Elizabeth Lawhorn
Biography
Elizabeth Lawhorn is an Associate at the law firm of Monahan & Cohen. She concentrates her practice in the representation of hospitals, social service agencies, and individuals in mental health litigation, child welfare matters, guardianship proceedings, and other general matters of mental health and developmental disabilities law. Prior to joining the firm, Elizabeth clerked for the Office of the State Appellate Defender and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Ronald A. Guzmán in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Elizabeth graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where she was a Child Law Fellow with the Loyola Civitas ChildLaw Center. During law school, she authored an article for the Children's Legal Rights Journal, "Aging Out" of Illinois' Medically Fragile Children's Waiver: Changing Care Rates Trigger ADA Debate. She also recently co-authored a publication in a special edition of Loyola University Chicago’s Annals of Health Law, Life-Sustaining Treatment and the Law: The Evolution of Informed Consent, Advance Directives and Surrogate Decision Making.
