Joseph T. Monahan

 

Biography
Joseph T. Monahan is the co-founder of the Chicago law firm of Monahan & Cohen. A certified social worker, he served as Director of a child welfare agency before becoming a lawyer. After receiving his law degree, he was an attorney with the Legal Advocacy Service of the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission. He served as the court-appointed "next friend" for over 20,000 wards in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in a federal class action lawsuit, and he has represented hundreds of clients in adult guardianship proceedings. He has lectured extensively on the legal issues concerning guardianship and mental health.
