Most Rev. Thomas J. Paprocki
Biography
Most Rev. Thomas J. Paprocki was formerly the Chancellor of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago and an advisor on canon law to the Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Francis George. After being ordained a priest, he obtained a law degree from DePaul University and was admitted to the bar. He co-founded the South Chicago Legal Clinic to help answer the need for legal services for the poor, and he still serves in a volunteer capacity as the President of that organization (which has been re-named the Chicago Legal Clinic). Fr. Paprocki was the recipient of the Chicago Bar Foundation's Weigle Award in 1985 for recognition of his outstanding service to the legal profession. He received an award from Loyola at its annual Public Interest Convocation in 1992 for his pro bono activities. He was named the 2003 Catholic Lawyer of the Year by the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Chicago. He served as Pastor of St. Constance Parish in Chicago before being ordained a bishop in 2003. Bishop Paprocki is the Chairman-elect of the Committee on Canonical Affairs and Church Governance of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and is the Episcopal Moderator of the National Catholic Development Conference. He also serves as the Cardina''s Liaison for Health and Hospital Affairs, Vice-President of the Illinois Catholic Health Association and Vice-Chairman of the John Paul II Foundation in Rome.
