Biography

Professor Catherine Dwyer's early legal career was with a major Wall Street law firm. She practiced in the areas of corporate and securities law specializing in corporate acquisitions. She went on to become group corporate counsel at Automatic Data Processing, Inc. For four years Professor Dwyer was a business professional in the field of mergers and acquisitions as Vice President of Corporate Development at Automatic Data Processing, Inc. and as a Principal at New Venture Consulting. She joined The BISYS Group, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange traded company as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, responsible for all legal matters of the corporation including overseeing litigation, commercial transactions, strategic planning, corporate governance, acquisitions, and securities administration.

As well as teaching at Michigan State University College of Law, she has been a visiting faculty member at Odessa State University Institute of International Economics; China Foreign Affairs University in Beijing; University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China; University of Ottawa Common Law Faculty and Vytautus Magnus Law School in Lithuania. In 2006 Professor Dwyer was a Fulbright Professor in Comparative Law and Legal Education Reform at the Law Academy of Kyrgyzstan.

From 1996 through 2007, Professor Dwyer has undertaken rule of law and education reform projects in six of the former Soviet Republics: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and in Jordan. She assisted in developing an undergraduate school of management at Odessa State University in Ukraine. Professor Dwyer's private international consulting has been in the fields of corporate and securities law and higher education reform in various Eastern European countries and in China.

Professor Dwyer teaches in the areas of corporate and securities law, and private and public international law.
