10th Annual Children's Summer Institute
May 19 - May 23, 2008

Children's Summer InstituteStudents:  A one-week intensive law course (2 credits)

Practitioners:  A one-day course approved for MCLE credits will be offered on Friday, May 23.

The intensive, one-week interdisciplinary class brings together students and practitioners in the fields of law, social work, child development, education, and psychology.  This year, a diverse team of faculty will offer interdisciplinary perspectives on the meaning of "best interest of the child," particularly as it relates to federal and state policies aimed at achieving permanency for children.  A special focus on teen parents is planned.  Experts from the fields of law, psychology, social work, early childhood development, and education will present information, participate in discussions with the attendees, and debate issues from the perspectives of their own professions.  Faculty will provide both a theoretical framework for examining the issues, as well as practical experiential learning.  Various educational methods will be employed including case studies, lectures, outside speakers, field trips, role play, and group projects.
