Nanette Elster is vice president of Spence & Elster, PC, a Chicago-area law firm focusing on fertility law. Professor Elster also holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health and is a lecturer at the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She holds a BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a JD from Loyola University Chicago, and an MPH from Boston University. Professor Elster currently serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Center for Jewish Genetic Disorders, is a member of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Embryo Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee, and is a member of the American Bar Association Special Committee on Bioethics and the Law. She has extensive experience in legal, public health and ethical issues related to women’s and children’s health, particularly in the areas of assisted reproduction and genetics. Professor Elster also served on the faculty of the Institute for Health, Law and Policy at the UIC School of Medicine and Chicago-Kent College of Law. She speaks nationally and internationally and is the author of numerous articles on genetics and reproductive health with a particular focus on the legal and ethical implications. Professor Elster is a co-author of ETHICAL DILEMMAS IN FERTILITY COUNSELING, which was published by the American Psychological Association in 2010.
