Home > Recent Acquisitions > Electronic Acquisitions - February 2007

Do you need something to distract you from the cold - or from too many hearts and flowers on Valentine?s Day? Take a moment to review these highlights from among the recent additions and enhancements to the Law Library?s collection of electronic resources. As usual, the electronic material available through our LexisNexis, Westlaw, and HeinOnline subscriptions increased last month, and the Law Library also added a brand new electronic subscription to its collection ? CQ HealthBeat. Read more about that, below, and remember to visit the Law Library's webpage of Subscription Databases, at http://www.luc.edu/law/library/resources.html, to view a complete list of the electronic databases and services to which we subscribe.

Please feel free to contact Patricia Scott, the Law Library?s Reference and Electronic Services Librarian, at pscott2@luc.edu, or at x5-8515, if you have any comments or questions about our Subscription Databases.

CQ HealthBeat

Congressional Quarterly?s health-related publication, CQ HealthBeat, is the latest addition to the Law Library?s electronic collection. This comprehensive source for U.S. health care-related policy information contains links to news articles, legislation, regulations and event schedules. Updated daily, the site offers very current information, plus an archive of newsletter issues back to late 2004. Up to six concurrent users can use CQ HealthBeat, at http://www.cq.com/healthbeat.do, from their computers on the Loyola network, or from off-campus, via the university?s proxy server, by using the link on our Subscription Databases page, http://www.luc.edu/law/library/resources.shtml

HeinOnline

HeinOnline?s latest product is its new Session Laws library. Divided into subsections for individual states and territories, United States federal legislation, and Canadian acts, it contains content from approximately 2002 through 2005, with earlier years to be added soon. Use this collection as another resource for viewing legislation in session law, rather than codified, form.

Growth also continues through additions to other libraries and collections in HeinOnline. The Legal Classics Library started out 2007 with a bang with the addition of 78 new titles, bringing the total for that library to 1,063 titles. Remember this collection for the occasions on which you must do historical legal research. The Law Journal Library is another section of our HeinOnline subscription that grows at a rapid pace and last month was no exception. The bulk of the new material came in the form of updated contents from recent issues of 72 existing journal titles in the library. Plus, an additional 9 new titles were added, including:

Competition Law International, Vol. 1 (2005)
Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Vols. 1-15 (1986-2001)
International Business Lawyer, Vols. 1-29 (1973-2001)

Remember that HeinOnline?s content is available in PDF format! So when you view articles, or other material, through this service you see replicas of the original printed pages. Complete lists of recent additions to the HeinOnline libraries are available on Hein?s website, at http://www.heinonline.org/front/front-07update.html.

LexisNexis

LexisNexis? additions for early 2007 included a number of unique databases specific to health care issues, such as:

Federal and State Regulation of Online Pharmacies (OLPHRM)
International Medical Device Regulatory Monitor (MEDREG)
International Pharmaceutical Regulatory Monitor (PHMREG)
Medicaid Monthly (MEDICM)
Medicare Monthly (MEDMON)

Other interesting new additions included a plethora of municipal codes, divided into dozens of state specific databases, such as Illinois Municipal Codes (ILMCDE), plus the following:

Cato Supreme Court Review (CATOSC)
Restatement 3d, Employment Law ? Drafts (DEMPLW)
Selected Copyright Pleadings (CRTFLS/CPYRPL)
Wake Forest Intellectual Property Law Journal (WAKFIP)

Remember that LexisNexis remains a good choice for international news and magazine sources, many more of which were added recently. For a complete list of new databases in LexisNexis, see http://www.lexisnexis.com/infopro/current/sources/. Most databases listed there are included in our law school subscription.

Westlaw

Westlaw, too, began 2007 by rolling out a variety of databases that concern health-related legal issues. Among some of those noteworthy additions were:

Federal Health Law ? FDA Multibase (FHTH-FEDFDA)
Guide to Medical Device Regulation (MEDDVCREG)
Nursing Home Regulations Manual (NURHMREGS)
OSHA Guide for Health Care Facilities (OSHAHCF)

Many Illinois-specific databases also joined Westlaw at the beginning of this year, including:

Illinois Civil Practice Forms: Environmental Law (IL-ENVCIVPRAC)
Illinois Forms Legal and Business ? Construction Law (IL-CSTRLF)
Illinois Law and Practice: Environmental Law (IL-ENVLP)
Illinois Practice Series: Civil Discovery (ILPRACT-DISC)
Illinois Real Property Service (ILRPS-ENV)

Finally, last month, Westlaw became a good source for state trial court orders. Learn more about that at http://west.thomson.com/newsletters/westelert/2007_Jan/copy1.aspx. Also, see http://west.thomson.com/newsletters/westelert/2007_Jan/copy4.aspx for a complete list of recent additions and content changes to Westlaw. Most databases listed there are available under our subscription.
