Electronic Acquisitions (May, 2007)
Looking for a few great electronic resources to peruse before heading out into the sun this summer? Take a look at some of the following additions to the Law Library?s electronic collection. HeinOnline has been adding titles at a good clip and is also gearing up to introduce a major interface enhancement. LexisNexis and Westlaw also have added and enhanced a number of the databases that are available to students under our subscriptions. After reading this summary of the changes, see the complete list of our electronic collection:
http://www.luc.edu/law_library/resources/resources_subscription.html.
Contact Patricia Scott, the Law Library?s Reference and Electronic Services Librarian, at pscott2@luc.edu, or at x5-8515, if you have any questions or problems.
HeinOnline
HeinOnline's Law Journal Library now includes "Kindex: An Index to Legal Periodical Literature Concerning Children," which indexes legal periodical articles relevant to child law and juvenile justice: Coverage currently runs from 1965 to 2001. When you enter the Law Journals Library, look for Kindex in the alphabetical list of titles. Or, find it via the new "Indexes and Finding Aids" link in the wide blue column at the left of your screen. The "Index to Periodical Articles Related to Law" and any other periodicals indexes added in the future will also be available there.
The Law Journal Library also added Brandeis Law Journal, Vols. 1-44 (1961-2006) in April, which means that HeinOnline now contains all primary reviews published by U.S. law schools, from volume one onward. Other new journal titles include:
Journal of Food Law and Policy, Vol.1 (2005)
Juta's Business Law, Vols. 1-11 (1993-2003)
Revista Juridica Universidad de Puerto Rico, Vols. 1-73 (1932-2004)
Theoretical Inquiries in Law, Vols. 1-7 (2000-2006)
Wake Forest Intellectual Property Law Journal, Vols. 6-7 (2006)
Legal Classics also added 21 new titles, and the World Trials collection added 100. Who can resist the temptation to visit World Trials to read the story behind this catchy title -- "Life and Adventures of Ambrose Gwinett, Apprentice to an Attorney at Law. Who for a Murder Which He Never Committed, Was Tried Condemned, Executed, and Hung in Chains, in Old-England; yet Lived Many Years Afterwards, and in His Travels Found the Man in the West Indies, Actually Alive, for the Supposed Murder of Whom He Had Been Really Executed"?
On a more mundane note, HeinOnline also bulked up its state Session Laws library by adding 2000-2003 coverage for 43 states, including Illinois, and for Puerto Rico. The Treaties and Agreements Library added 40 new KAV agreements, the Federal Register Library now includes Vol. 72 (Jan - Feb 2007), and the Economic Report of the President (2007) has been placed in the U.S. Presidential Library.
Look for more information about recent HeinOnline enhancements on the HeinOnline website,

What's next? Watch for a new interface, scheduled to debut at the end of May, and an enhancement to Legal Classics that will allow you to browse more than 1100 titles by subject.
LexisNexis
Not surprisingly, LexisNexis' database additions have focused heavily on "mega," international, foreign, local, and specialized news sources, such as:
ACN Newswire (Asia) (ACNNWS)
Bulldog Reporter?s Daily Dog (Public Relations) (DAILYD)
Business 2.0 (Business & Management) (BUS20)
Expansion (Spain) (EXPNSN)
Power Magazine (Energy & Utilities) (POWMAG)
Tax sources also played a role in recent LexisNexis database enhancements. If you are interested in tax law, consider the possibilities open to you with the LexisNexis tax center. One recently added source is Practical Guide to U.S. Transfer Pricing, 3rd Edition (PGUSTP).
For more about additions and enhancement to LexisNexis, check the summary on their website,

Many databases listed there are included in our subscription.
Westlaw
What's new with Westlaw? Materials relevant to international and foreign law practice and research were nicely represented in recent additions. They include:
Asian Journal of WTO and International Health Law and Policy (ASJWTO)
EC Competition Law Reporter (ECCLRPT)
Guide to the International Sale of Goods Convention (INTSLGDS)
Several new journal titles also have been added recently. Among those additions:
Journal of Legal Technology Risk Management (JLTRM)
NYU Journal of Law and Liberty (NYUJLL)
Pittsburgh Journal of Environmental and Public Health Law (PJEPHL)
Yale Law Journal Pocket Part (YLJPP)
For the complete story on recent database changes and enhancements to Westlaw, see their website, at http://west.thomson.com/newsletters/westelert/2007_Apr/. Most of the databases listed there are available through the Law Library?s Westlaw account.
