Library Liaisons

Each faculty member is assigned a professional librarian as a liaison. If you are not sure who your Library Liaison is, please email Fred LeBaron, or call 312-915-6842. Liaisons assist faculty members with:

Access to Licensed Databases

In addition to Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw, the law library subscribes to a number of licensed legal resources databases.  Faculty can access these resources through the Loyola network, or remotely through proxy access.  A list of law-specific licensed databases can be found at the library's Online Resources page. If you have questions or suggestions about our licensed resources, please contact Patricia Scott (ext 5-8515).

Online Research Guides

The Law Library's reference librarians have developed numerous topical research guides, containing web links to various resources. Please contact us if you'd like a research guide created on a topic of interest to you.

Training on Library Resources

Reference librarians are available to provide personalized instruction to faculty members on the use of library tools, databases, and other resources. This instruction can be arranged at your convenience.  We can also arrange for a trainer from CCH, Westlaw, Lexis, or other publishers and resource vendors to meet with you to provide training on their products. To request this service please contact your Library Liaison.

Periodicals/Serials Routing

Law School faculty can request that the Library's copy of current issues of periodicals be routed to them. Faculty members can contact their Liaison and indicate which titles they would like routed to them.

Legal Scholarship Network

The Legal Scholarship Network (LSN) maintains an electronic library that contains over 18,000 previously published abstracts and 5000 working papers in law, economics, and finance, which are available to download. The Law Library has acquired a one year license covering the electronic abstract journals published by the LSN. Faculty can submit abstracts of their own working papers. You can also select journals from which you would like to receive emailed abstracts. 

Current Awareness Services

The Law Library offers current awareness services, and can arrange for you to receive services tailored to your research interests.  Some of the more popular services are briefly described below. For assistance with any of these services, please contact your Library Liaison.

SmartCILP 
SmartCILP is a weekly subscription service offered through the Law Library at the University of Washington. CILP indexes current articles from over 500 law reviews and other legal publications by subject, a provides personalized e-mail delivery of a citation list of current periodical articles.

Lexis-Nexis Eclipse
Automatic searches of Lexis-Nexis databases of primary or secondary sources can be tailored to your research interests, and the results delivered electronically.  

Westlaw WestClip
Automatic searches of Westlaw databases of primary or secondary sources can be tailored to your research interests, and the results delivered electronically.  

Proxy Authorization

Faculty members can authorize students to check out materials for them on their library account.  Please fill out the Proxy Authorization form. The library will contact the faculty member to verify the proxy request.

If you wish to request library instruction for your class, or for any other project.  Please fill out our instruction request form.

Course materials on Library Reserve

Please use the Library Reserves form to ask library staff to put material on reserve for a class.  Please note that reserve requests made on the weekend may not get processed until the next business day.  To put personal materials or photocopies on reserve, place these in the library's mailbox in the faculty mailroom of the law school with a note indicating your name and course. The Law Library adheres to the copyright guidelines set out by the copyright office of the university.

Assistance with TWEN courseware

TWEN is the "The West Education Network" and is free courseware accessed through Westlaw.  It can be used to communicate with students and deliver portions of your course content securely through the Internet.

CALI Exercises

The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) is a non-profit consortium of law schools that develops online exercises or "lessons" which can be used by faulty to supplement their courses, or by students to practice their legal knowledge.  Please contact your Library Liaison for Loyola's password.

Practice Exams (old exams) on TWEN

Faculty can elect to contribute their old versions of exams to be placed on a TWEN web page for Loyola student use. The Practice Exams page is maintained by the Law Library. TWEN is a secure, password-protected site, hosted by Westlaw.  The Loyola practice exams are accessible only to Loyola Law faculty and students using their Loyola-issued Westlaw passwords.

Research Instruction and/or Research Guides

Reference librarians can provide customized classroom presentations or research handouts in topical areas to fit your class needs. Please allow sufficient time for the library to prepare presentations and handouts.
