The People's Institute (Application Deadline Extended)
Sponsored by the Student Leadership Development and Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs departments and hosted from March 16-18, 2012 at LUREC. The TPI aims to empower students to explore and reflect upon the interconnection between leadership and social justice. In the spirit of Jesuit education, The People’s Institute (TPI) is an exciting leadership opportunity for students at Loyola University Chicago. This program is designed to raise awareness, examine privilege and responsibility, and learn skills to create positive social change. TPI will include interactive sessions, large and small group dialogue, and exercises to develop intergroup relations, understanding of social justice and diversity, and leadership development. TPI is centered on self-identity exploration. Students had requested additional time to submit applications so we have extended the application process. Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership
You may be randomly selected to be invited to participate in a national study on student leadership development. Information from the study informs best practices for university staff across the country and helps to improve the programs and services created to enrich the university experience for all students. "Women as Leaders: Negotiating the Labyrinth" - A Presentation by Dr. Alice Eagly
Dr. Eagly's research focuses on gender and leadership, and she is author of "Through the Labyrinth: The Truth about how Women Become Leaders." Come to the McCormick Lounge at 4pm on March 1st for the lecture, followed by a reception with light refreshments.
16th Annual National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference (NJSLC)
The NJSLC provides opportunities for leadership development and networking among student leaders from the 28 Jesuit univeristies and colleges in the USA. The conference is relevant for (but not limited to) students interested in / connected with student organizations, student government, residence life, community service, ministry, orientation, and peer education roles.
With financial and logistical support from the Student Leadership Development department and the division of Student Development, Loyola University Chicago will bring a delegation of students to the 2012 conference from July 25-29th at the College of the Holy Cross. Applications are now available by clicking here or by visiting Student Leadership Development in CFSU Lower Level 42. Applications are due Monday, March 26, 2012. The Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) was created to increase the effectiveness of efforts by Jesuit universities to respond to humanitarian crises in the United States and throughout the world. A cornerstone of JUHAN is its biennial workshop for undergraduate students from Jesuit colleges and universities. Loyola University Chicago will take a delegation of students to the 2012 conference from June 12th -15th at Fairfield University. Applications are due Wednesday, February 29th. New Leadership Illinois is an all expenses paid bi-partisan program that strives to educate and empower women interested in public service. This year's program will be held in Chicago from June 3-8.
