General Information about the Certificate Program
Students are welcome to participate in as many workshops as fit their interests and schedules. For students interested in earning a Certificate in Leadership Development, which can be noted on a resume, please click on the "Earn a SLD Certificate" link (on the right side of the screen). The schedule of workshop titles and dates is listed here. Students completing the requirements to earn the Certificate should note that events listed below with an asterick (*) are not considered to be "elective workshops".

Leadership Foundations (Core Workshop)

This workshop will expose students to various models, theories and historical perspectives of leadership. Students will be encouraged to critically evaluate these approaches and to engage in discussions around leadership as a socially constructed phenomenon. Through activities and conversations, students will explore what leadership means to them. They will also reflect on how this understanding impacts the way in which they engage in the leadership process.
The Power of Storytelling: How Sharing Our Authentic Stories Fosters Inclusivity

Each of us has a fascinating story to tell. As we share the truth of our stories, we invite others to do the same. We will consider both the risks that come with hearing a single story and the strength the community gains from listening to diverse stories.
Understanding Identities

Join the Interfaith Companions for a workshop that explores the various identities we hold. Specifically within the workshop, we will discuss how our faith identities are an integral part of who we are and how certain privileged identities call us to be allies to those in our community who may be at a disadvantage. Participants will leave the workshop with a better sense of their own identity and how that will serve them in their leadership roles throughout college. Case studies will be used to develop practical skills in addressing conflict.
Immunity to Change: How to Change When Change is Hard

A recent study showed that when doctors tell heart patients they will die if they don't change their habits, only one in seven will be able to follow through successfully. How can we change ourselves when change is so hard? Based on the popular leadership text, Immunity to Change by Kegan and Lehey, participants will explore changes they wish to make, uncover powerful barriers that are stopping the change, and create a plan to finally make progress. Participants should come to the workshop with some changes in mind.
Being R.E.A.L (Core Workshop)

Loyola University's Ignation values provide the context for this workshop, in the sense that we are called to care for the whole person and to prepare students to be men and women for others. By exploring what it means to be "REAL" students will reflect on their personal values as they relate to leadership, discuss ethical approaches to leadership, and will consider leadership as a collaborative, inclusive process.
Leaders Lead and Leaders Take Action! (Canceled)

Social Activism has taken on a new definition in this day and age. With all of the ways in which one can connect, learn and spread information, it could easily be said that “activism” now takes place in number of ways. But is creating blog, posting a video, etc., effective? Come ready to engage in intentional dialogue about social movements and social change as well as learn about ways increase your work as leader and activist.
Putting it Together: Leadership & Career Development (Rescheduled from February 26th)

This workshop will explore how to make sense of impactful experiences in terms of your career goals. Participants will learn the top 5 skills employers look for and will reflect on skill sets and past experiences. Then, participants will make connections between their strengths, experiences, and career or vocational goals. This interactive workshop will give tools to connect cocurricular involvement to future goals in a reflective and engaging way.
Oh, The Rhythm of Being A Leader

Students will be given the opportunity to discover their leadership styles through individual and interactive activities. Through these activities students will be able to put their skills to practice and learn the most effective ways to work with others.
Religious Literacy

Join the Interfaith Companions for a workshop that explores the various faith expressions within our campus community. During the workshops, the tenets, holy days, scriptures, and cultural norms that exist within our faith traditions will be discussed and deconstructed. Participants will walk away from the workshop with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the many faith traditions that they will encounter as student leaders in the Loyola community.
Leadership in Action (Core Workshop)
7-8:30pm | April 16th | Quinlan Life Science Building 312
This workshop engages students in conversations around leadership for the promotion of positive social change and the promotion of social justice. The goals are to support understanding of complex issues, and to empower students in their development as agents of positive change.
