Living Together
Students who participate in a Learning Community live together in a residential community. This allows students to develop social relationships that help them dive deeper into their academic coursework and support each other more holistically. Living together allows students to have more robust conversations in class and provides built in study groups! Because the living experience is such an influential part of the Learning Community experience, students are required to live on-campus, in their Learning Community in order to participate.
First and Second Year Communities
First-year Learning Community students live together in one of our first-year residence halls. Each of our first-year residence halls
(Mertz, BVM, Simpson, and Regis) will be home to at least one Learning Community in 2012-2013. Learning Communities will be assigned to specific halls once applications have been received and we determine the number of spaces needed for each community. Building assignments will be communicated to students via their Loyola email the first week of June.
Second-Year Learning Community students will live with their communities in a second-year building. Sophomores in the International Learning Community will live together in Messina Hall while sophomores in the Wellness Learning Community will live together in Bellarmine Hall. Both of these halls are located on the Lakeshore Campus and will be brand new for the Fall of 2012.
Upperclass Communities
Sophomore, junior, and senior students participating in the Urban Issues Learning Community live together in Baumhart Hall on our Water Tower Campus.
Transfer Student Communities
Transfer students participating in the International Learning Community will live together in Messina Hall on the Lakeshore Campus. Transfer students participating in the Transfer Loyola Experience Learning Community will live together in
Fairfield Hall on the Lakeshore Campus. Transfer Students participating in the Urban Issues Learning Community will live together in Baumhart Hall on the Water Tower Campus.
