SCHOOL OF ED SCORES 100 PERCENT

The National Council on Teacher Quality gave Loyola’s reading program perfect marks.

In its May 2006 study, “What Education Schools Aren’t Teaching About Reading and What Elementary Teachers Aren’t Learning,” the National Council on Teacher Quality gave the Loyola School of Education reading program perfect marks.

The study randomly selected teacher preparation programs, reviewed their curricula, and determined how well they teach the key components of good reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Only 10 other institutions besides Loyola received a 100 percent rating.

“Congratulations to the members of our teacher preparation program,” says David Prasse, PhD, dean of the School of Education.  “Our hard work has brought this program to its high quality level, and it’s great to be recognized for that.”
