STRONG SEASON FOR MEN’S B-BALL

At presstime, Loyola’s men’s basketball team was headed for the Horizon League Tournament with bright prospects for success.
Loyola finished the regular-season with a 20-10 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the Horizon League, which was good for third place. The Ramblers will be the No. 3 seed in the Horizon League Championship.
2006-07 season highlights
- The Ramblers’ Feb. 22 victory over Butler ended a 17-game losing streak to that university, and marked Loyola's first win over a ranked opponent since 1986.
- Senior guard Blake Schilb is the only player ever to post 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 400 assists in a Rambler uniform.
- Loyola’s season sweep of Detroit was the Ramblers’ first since 1991-92.
- The Ramblers had their second straight winning season and first 20-win campaign since 1984-85.
- Coach Jim Whitesell is the first Rambler coach to win at least eight conference games in each of his first three seasons at Loyola.
- Schilb and senior Majak Kou are the first set of Loyola teammates with more than 1,000 career points at the same time since Carl Golston and Andre Battle in the mid-1980s.
The women’s team had some milestones of its own this year. Seniors Marquise Hanser and Jenna Real each scored her 1,000th career point this season. With a 4-3 record in January, Loyola posted its first winning month since 2002.
