In January, Loyola’s environmentally friendly library, the Klarchek Information Commons (KIC), was officially awarded LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of highperformance green buildings. Contributing to the KIC’s LEED Silver certification are a series of mechanical systems controlled by sensors monitoring temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels both inside and outside the building.
