Men's Volleyball Team Amasses Accolades

The men’s volleyball team wrapped up a highly successful 2006 season studded with its third Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) championship, among other honors:
- Junior middle blocker James Grunst and senior opposite hitter Chris Kozlarek became the first two Loyola players to be selected First Team All- Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Kozlarek was also named MIVA Player of the Year.
- Junior setter Brian Guntli was selected to the ESPN The Magazine District Five Academic All-District squad. He is the first member of the Loyola men’s volleyball team ever to receive the honor. Along with Grunst, Kozlarek and senior libero John Thuet,Guntli earned First Team All-MIVA honors this season. He was also named Scholar-Athlete of the Month in the April issue of Volleyball magazine.
- For the second season in a row, Shane Davis,men’s volleyball head coach,was named MIVA Coach of the Year. He’s the first coach to win this award two years in a row since Don Shondell of Ball State did so in 1994-95.
The Ramblers finished the 2006 season with a 23-7 record and a final ranking of 11 in the CSTV/AVCA Division I-II national poll.
