William Hillmert (JD ‘34) celebrated his 100th birthday on Oct. 5, 2006.

1950s

Raymond F. Simon (BA ‘53, JD ‘56) received the Francis Cardinal George “Christo Gloria” Award on March 29 from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. The award honors Simon for being “a man of faith and principle who has spent his lifetime seeking justice for the less fortunate in the civic, religious, and philanthropic communities of Chicago.”

Elizabeth Casieri-Tuohy (MUND ‘58, MEd ‘68) married John O’Connor Tuohy (JD ‘59) on Sept. 8, 2006.

1960s

Brigid McDuffy (MUND ’60) appeared in Bread & Salt, a recent Chicago Actors Workshop production based on selected poems of Carl Sandburg.

Thea Jarvis (Rome Center ‘64-’65) has written a new book, Everyday Hospitality, which offers simple steps to cultivating a welcoming heart.

Ellen K. Munro (BBA ‘65) was named one of the Illinois Super Lawyers 2007 in “Schools & Education” by the publishers of Chicago magazine.

Virginia Meares Rugai (BS ‘67, MA ‘01) was re-elected alderman of the 19th Ward of Chicago with 54.55% of the vote totaling 11,685 votes, the highest number in the city. Upon completion of her fifth term, she will be the longest-serving alderman in the history of the ward.

1970s

Mark Leopold (JD ‘75) has been elected vice president of A Safe Place/Lake County Crisis Center.  A board member entering his sixth year, he previously served as treasurer.

John Fredricksen, DDS (BS ‘78, DENT ‘82), is the new president of the Chicago Dental Society.

Joseph DelleRose (MSIR ‘79) recently completed the Advanced Program in Human Resource Management at the University of California-Los Angeles.

Laura Japczyk Heitz (BA ‘79) has opened Right Now Redesign Inc., a one-day home decorating service. Her e-mail is laura@rightnowredesign.com.

1980s

Mary Ann Pollett (EdD ‘82) recently celebrated her 35th anniversary at Montefiore Special School, a city-wide Chicago public therapeutic day school, serving the needs of severely emotionally disturbed children. She has been the principal of Montefiore for the past 14 years.

Gerard Wozek (BA ’82) recently published a book of short fiction and travel memoir, Postcards from Heartthrob Town (Haworth Press, 2006).  He teaches writing and the humanities at Robert Morris College in Chicago.  He can be reached through his Web site at www.gerardwozek.com.

John McNabola ( BBA ‘86) was recently named executive director of St. Mary’s Services in Arlington Heights, IL. St. Mary’s is a domestic and international adoption agency founded more than 100 years ago by the Episcopal Sisters of St. Mary. McNabola formerly was president of an automotive leasing company. He resides in Park Ridge, IL, with his wife, Jennifer, and two daughters.

Donna M. (Kotheimer) Neary (MA  ’86) was recently named Kentucky state historic preservation officer and executive director of the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic
Preservation Office.

Janet Haggerty Davis (PhD ‘87) has been appointed the founding dean of Robert Morris College School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Michael Jean (BBA ’87), senior grants administrator for the Brookings Institution, Washington, DC,  and his wife, Nancy, welcomed twins, Jenna Rose and Justin Michael, in October 2006.

Muriel Hawkins (PhD ’89), assistant vice chancellor for academic support and diversity at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, is one of 39 college and university senior faculty and administrators named a 2007-08 American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow. Hawkins will become the first ACE Fellow from UW Oshkosh.

Kim Grayer Wytch (BBA ‘89) is now a sales representative with Encyclopedia Britannica.

1990s

Nancy Andrade (BA ‘90) is president and general  counsel of Mexifeast Foods, Inc., which sells authentic Mexican tamales to grocery stores in Chicago and the Midwest.  They can be purchased online through Peapod Online Grocers.

Jose Damian Ortiz (BS ‘90) has been appointed to the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Board of Directors and to the Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation (MHDC) Board of Directors.

Annette Brands Hurley (BA ‘92) has re-joined the Chicago law firm of Reed Smith Sachnoff & Weaver as a partner, concentrating on estate and gift planning, business and tax planning, and trust and estate administration. Reed Smith is one of the world’s 15 largest law firms with more than 1,500 attorneys in 21 offices worldwide.

Jocelyn Dionisio (BS ‘94) has received an MBA degree from Saint Xavier University in Chicago.

Michael P. Sullivan (JD ’95) was recently promoted to partner at Pedersen and Houpt.  He focuses on commercial real estate and financing transactions.

Jane Eschweiler, SDS (MPS ‘97), is director of the Jordan Ministry Team, where her collaborative ministry team serves the entire Diocese of Tucson, AZ, providing ministry training for deacon and lay ministry candidates, youth ministers, catechists, and Catholic school teachers.  Her team travels to the far ends of the diocese to lead retreats, workshops, and classes.

John “Jay” Presberg (BBA, SCPS, ‘98) has been appointed managing director for the PrivateBank-Chicago.

Rory Hoskins (MSW ‘99) has been elected Forest Park’s first black commissioner.  He also received the highest vote total of any of the candidates.

Robert McBride (EdD ‘99) has been elected to the Elgin Community College Board of Trustees. He is a consultant with the Kane County Regional Office of Education.

2000s

Ian Brennan (BA ‘01) recently appeared in the off-Broadway revival of J.M. Barrie’s Mary Rose at the Vineyard Theatre, New York City.

Jeffrey Gettler (BA ‘03) graduated from the University of Kansas Law School in 2005.  He is practicing law with a small, general practice firm in Independence, KS.

Alyson (Seiling) Stanczak (BS ’02) and husband Dan Stanczak welcomed their first child, daughter Nalani Estelle Stanczak, in October 2006.

William Blazek, S.J., MD (MA ‘06), received an appointment as adjunct assistant professor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine.  Blazek teaches ethics and medicine in the preclinical curriculum.  He is an attending physician in two Washington, DC, health care systems, providing medical care to the homeless and new Spanish-speaking immigrants.
