As announced in the last issue of Loyola magazine, Christine Wiseman, JD, former vice president for academic affairs and professor of law at Creighton University, has joined Loyola as its new provost. Here are a few more details about her background.

Wiseman has spent nearly 30 years in Jesuit Catholic higher education and was the first woman to rise through the academic ranks to senior administrative leadership at Marquette University. She was an assistant Wisconsin attorney general and a federal district law clerk before moving into higher education. She received both her BA and JD degrees from Marquette University.

At Creighton, Wiseman led strategic planning and reaccreditation efforts. She also directed interdisciplinary initiatives such as joint academic forums, which served to foster collaboration between the university’s health sciences and other disciplines.

Wiseman has experience managing the complexities inherent in higher education, an extensive background in negotiation and conflict resolution, and strategic planning expertise.

“As an educator, Loyola has always held my interest with its strong intellectual tradition, the breadth and quality of its academic programs, and its commitment to educating and working with underserved populations—something that is critical to the Jesuit mission and important to my own life as well,” says Wiseman. “It is a fabulous institution with nearly unlimited capacity to impact the quality of Jesuit Catholic higher education into the 21st century.”

Wiseman’s track record of success and broad knowledge of Jesuit higher education makes her a perfect fit for Loyola.
