Mocks Rock

Members of the University’s undergraduate mock trial team headed to a national championship tournament this spring, while several of the School of Law’s moot and mock trial teams carried on the school’s tradition of strong performance in competitions.

Advised by Michael Walsh (MA ‘94), attorney and adjunct professor of political science, two teams in Loyola’s undergraduate mock trial program finished in fifth and sixth place in Loyola’s 20-team regional competition. Both teams earned the right to compete in the national championship tournament, where one took an honorable mention. In the last two years, Loyola undergraduate teams have won the maximum number of national tournament bids a school is allowed to take from regional competition. See LUC.edu/depts/polisci for more information.

The Loyola School of Law team went undefeated into the semifinal round of the National Moot Court Team Competition, placing among the top four teams out of 189.

Loyola law teams swept the Thomas Tang National Moot Court Championship, snagging the national championship and second place, as well as Best Brief and Best Oralist awards.

At the mock trial Tournament of Champions, the School of Law’s Corboy Fellows team tied for fourth out of 16 teams. Admittance to the competition is by invitation only to the top 20-ranked teams in the country.

In the Texas Young Lawyers Association Competition, the Loyola law team advanced to the final round.
