customized and cutting-edge: executive education

Executive Education gets business pros ready for tomorrow’s challenges

With a new emphasis on custom programming and a fresh slate of course offerings, Loyola’s Executive Education department is addressing the changing education needs of Chicago’s business professionals.

“We provide high-quality executive and management development programs on a professional development and customized basis,” says Marilyn Stocker, PhD, associate dean.

Courses are created or revised regularly to reflect cutting-edge content, and taught by a mix of Loyola business faculty members and outside experts. Executive Education’s mission: to provide practical learning experiences that address compelling business issues while developing the deeper leadership capacities and human spirit of executives. That mission is reflected in the program’s new motto, “Net worth or self worth? Both, actually, at Loyola Executive Education.”

“Our approach balances a firm grounding in academic disciplines with hands-on practical business problem-solving,” adds Maria Trakas, program manager.

Instruction to fit the organization

Because every client has unique requirements, Executive Education offers both professional development programs for individuals and custom courses for companies or organizations.

Established certificate programs have been joined by new certificates in today’s hottest best-practices business topics (see sidebar). Executive Education also provides short programs in accounting, finance, risk management and investments, customer focus, online marketing, work-life balance, and more.

In keeping with educational and business trends, Executive Education is shifting its focus to more custom programming in areas including board governance, business writing, change management, Lean & Six Sigma, mediation, and sales excellence.

“We develop and deliver our custom programs in partnership with the company or organization, based on their business strategy, challenges, and goals,” says Stocker. Custom clients choose Loyola for its world-class faculty with real-world experience, commitment to the program’s success, project management skills, ongoing support and advice, and sensitivity to investment and cost.

Loyal client base

Executive Education clients include McDonald’s Corp., Harpo Studios Inc., the City of Chicago, Banco Popular, Little Village Development Corp., National Restaurant Association, Rotary International, and Northwest Community Hospital.

Increasingly, Executive Education is forming partnerships with outside organizations to draw on those organizations’ particular expertise while tapping new client bases. For instance, the new Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor Credentialing Program is being offered in partnership with the Alliance of Merger and Acquisition Advisors.
