Business Communication

I. University Core Curriculum (48 hours)

Students complete the amount of credit hours in each knowledge area indicated below. University Core Curriculum courses carry three credit hours per class, unless otherwise indicated. Some requirements may be fulfilled by transfer credit.  Please speak to an SCPS academic advisor about prior credits.  For the most up to date listing of courses for each University Core Curriculum knowledge area, see www.luc.edu/core.

  • University Writing Requirement (3hours)
  • Artistic Knowledge (3 hours)
  • Historical Knowledge (6 hours)
  • Literary Knowledge and Experience (6 hours)
  • Quantitative Literacy (3 hours)
  • Philosophical Knowledge (6 hours)
  • Scientific Literacy (6 hours)
  • Societal/Cultural Understanding (6 hours)
  • Theological/Religious Studies (6 hours)
  • Ethics (3 hours)

II. SCPS School Requirements (12 hours)

The following communication and writing courses are required of all students:

  • COMM 101 Public Speaking (3 hours)
  • COMM 150 Communication Processes (3 hours)
  • ENGL 310 Business and Professional Writing (3 hours)
  • SCPS 200 Introduction to Degree Completion (3 hours)

As of Fall 2011, all Communication courses have moved from the CMUN prefix to COMM. Course numbers have also been adjusted but content has not. For more information, go to the School of Communication's webpage.

III.  Managerial Arts and Leadership Major (30 hours)

IV. Business Communication Concentration (18 hours)

  • COMM 231 Conflict Management Communication
  • COMM 268 Persuasion
  • COMM 277 Organizational Communication

V. Electives (18 hours)

Electives can be fulfilled with any course offered on the SCPS schedule, across the university, and met by transfer credit.  An advisor will assist you in determining what is needed for elective credit.
