Loyola Math Club Tutoring
The Loyola Math Club offers free tutoring to students in Math 131 (and other courses). Further details regarding the important information of where and when will be posted once announced.
- WileyPLUS
WileyPLUS is an online, interactive environment for teaching and learning. As part of the required text for MATH 131, you are asked to purchase an access code for WileyPLUS. This access code is active for up to one year, and you will therefore be able to use WileyPLUS next semester (if you take MATH 132) at no additional cost. Many sections of MATH 131 will use WileyPLUS as a required homework component of the final course grade.
Follow the steps below to register for your section in WileyPLUS:
- Go to the WileyPLUS homepage.
- In the Students section of the homepage, click on the Get started button.
- Enter LOYOLA UNIV - CHICAGO as the school name and click Find.
- Click the plus sign next to APPLIED CALCULUS I & II to expand the section list.
- Click on your section.
- Create a WileyPLUS account or log in using an existing account.
- If you have purchased a hard copy of the text with the access code, enter your code to register for the course. Otherwise you can purchase a code (for $75.00).
Note: All students may register for WileyPLUS immediately, even if you have not received your copy from the bookstore at the start of the semester. If you have not received an access code by September 10, you will no longer have access to WileyPLUS.

Some instructors may be using WeBWorK for required, online homework submission (instead of WileyPLUS). Your instructor will provide you with the required username and password needed to login to your section's page. Mathematica is a powerful computing environment that is designed for use in engineering, mathematics, finance, physics, chemistry, biology, and a wide range of other fields. Loyola students and faculty can download and install the latest copy of Mathematica for free. Wolfram Demonstrations Project

- Math 131-132 vs. Math 161-162
Should you choose Math 161-162 or Math 131-132?
Any questions about placement in calculus or other 100- and 200-level courses which remain after reading this section should be directed to Professor John Del Greco, Assistant Chair. Please e-mail him to set up an appointment.
Math 161-162 (Calculus I, Calculus II) is a traditional calculus course covering all the basic topics of one-variable calculus. This sequence is a prerequisite for Multivariable Calculus (Math 263) as well as for almost all higher-level math courses. It is required for all students majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and Chemistry. It is highly recommended, although not required, for students majoring in Economics, Computer Science and Biology.
Math 131-132 (Applied Calculus I, Applied Calculus II) is more of a survey course covering many of the basic topics in one-variable calculus as well as some topics in multivariable calculus and differential equations. It is a terminal course in that it does not satisfy the prerequisites of upper-level mathematics and statistics courses. Students who enjoyed mathematics in high school and earned ACT math scores of 28 and higher or SAT math scores of 610 and higher are encouraged to choose the Math 161-162 sequence.
