Requirements for the Major in Economics: Ten economics courses consisting of ECON 201, 202, 303, 304, and six elective courses in economics, plus two courses in mathematics and/or statistics. It is assumed that students enrolling in economics courses will have completed MATH 132 and STAT 103, or the equivalent.
Students wishing to pursue graduate study in economics at the Ph.D. level are urged to include additional mathematics courses in their undergraduate curriculum. Students should complete the calculus course sequence (MATH 161, 162, and 263) linear algebra (MATH 212) and two 300-level mathematical statistics courses (STAT 304, 305). It is important that students consult with their economics advisor about the choice of mathematics courses.
Requirements for the Minor in Economics: Economics 201 and 202 and four 300-level economics courses. Given the specific interests of the students, he/she is urged to consult with the chairperson of the department concerning her/his selection of advanced level economics courses.
*Mathematics 100, 108, and COMP 125 are not acceptable to satisfy this requirement in the Department of Economics.
